Abbaye Saint-Etienne
The nave and the chapel are in fact the remains of an earlier church. This ancient church built at the end of the XIIth century and the beginning of the XIIIth century, was the abbey church of the powerful Benedictine abbey of Baignes founded, as the legend goes, at the time of Charlemagne. The abbey church was sacked during the Hundred Years' War and almost entirely destroyed in 1068 during the Wars of Religion, with the exception of the choir and the south arm of the transept, which had a small Romanesque chapel on the east side.
Visit on request of the keys to the parish during the weekend.
