Eglise Saint Maurice

When it was granted to the cathedral chapter of Angoulême, the first church at Fouquebrune was dedicated to Saint Victor. In the early 12th century, Pope Paschal II confirmed this dedication. The church, however, had already changed its patron saint, taking the name of Saint Maurice.

The oldest parts are found at the base of the side walls, the semi-circular apse and the façade. The rectangular bell tower has two linteled openings on each side. Massive buttresses surround the building; one of the two on the façade is taller as it supports the bell tower staircase. The three-bay nave is lit by narrow windows with ribbed vaults.
