Start by taking a step up to the Villebois-Lavalette Castle. This surprising site was chosen in the 10th century to become a place of residence, power and strength for many lords. After the revolution, it was transformed into a prison, a police station and later a school. During the visit, you will learn some interesting facts about the castle. Continue your journey to Magnac-Lavalette and push the doors of one of the most beautiful castles in the Charentes, the Mercerie Castle. Built in the 19th century, this monument was designed by the Réthoré brothers, both passionate about history and architecture. Their dream? To build a Charente Versailles. They left behind them a majestic and magnificent residence that lived up to their expectations. This castle is one of the treasures of the South Charente not to be missed! Halfway along the road, you arrive at the village of Fouquebrune. The counters are going crazy! You are now 500 meters above sea level. The surrounding scenery is impressive, and you can see a few castles in the distance, waiting for the invaders to arrive.
