Take a short break in the village square of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne. Cafés are served on the terrace, in a square shaded by lime trees and with a lively southern atmosphere. The experience should keep you going for the next 33 miles. As you make your way through the Tude Valley, you will be able to observe rare and wild species. This natural area has been designated a Natura 2000 area and provides a haven for around 16 animal species, which are considered vulnerable, endangered or endemic. These include the Mercury Agrion, the Yellow-bellied Sounder, the Cistude, the European Mink and the White-legged Crayfish. Don't forget to take your binoculars and your camera. A happy encounter is never far away. Continue your walk and reach the summits of Bellon. It is said that this village takes its name from its miraculous fountain. In the past, Bellon was called Bellhont, a contraction of the Gallic word "Bel" meaning "clear" and the Gascon word "Hont" meaning "fountain". Thus, Bellhont or Bellon, would mean "clear-fountain". This spring is still visible today, at a place called La Font, and will allow you to refresh yourself. To finish, go back down to Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne and stop at Laprade, where you will find Corinne Siot, puppet maker. On reservation, she will take you to meet her characters, inspired by tales and her imagination. Dragons, witches and other fantastic characters will be there to keep you company during the visit.
